Woodeye And Limab Gmbh In Cooperation

 

Limab GmbH are now representing WoodEye by Innovativ Vision in parts of the Central European market. This means that Limab will be handling all new sales at this market but services will still be run directly by WoodEye. The countries that are included are Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia. 

“We are pleased to initiate this cooperation with a company with this size of experience from industrial measure technology” says WoodEye CEO Jonas Eklind. “They have worked with the Central European market and also the wood industry a long time and knows the business well”.

Wood Recrafted From Underwear Factory By Pioneer Millworks

 Antique Heart Pine reclaimed from the Union Underwear Inc. factory by Pioneer Millworks was re-crafted into fine woodwork for a new supermarket and restaurant in Rochester, New York. 

A prominent supermarket that opened in May in Rochester, New York features timbers, doors, and trim crafted of reclaimed Heart Pine by New Energy Works Timberframers fine woodworking group, NEWwoodworks. The antique pine, also known as Southern Yellow Pine, was salvaged by Pioneer Millworks during deconstruction of the Union Underwear Inc. cotton mill and factory in Alabama.

Bosch Rexroth Unveils New Robot


Mantis which was unveiled earlier this year, has made an appearance at the Elmia Wood 2013 forestry exhibition (5 – 8 June 2013) in Sweden. The nine foot (2.7 meters) tall robot, which resembles a giant insect and can be driven remotely or piloted from the machine’s cockpit, took four years to develop and features Bosch Rexroth components and know-how. 

18 Rexroth 4WREE6 valves provide the integral function of controlling the hydraulic cylinders that operate the Mantis’ six legs. Each leg features three independent closed loop axes, one at the knee and two at the hip, with feedback provided by sensors installed on the outside of the leg.

 Suppliers of temporary road access solutions, walkways and Bog Mats, Timbermat Ltd, has announced its recent accreditation to Constructionline, a UK Government Certification Service and national online database of pre-qualified contractors and consultants.

The criteria for Constructionline accreditation includes the supply of financial information including Directors’ report, Auditor’s or accountant’s report and usual financial statements together with two references for each category, sector or discipline for which the business wishes to be registered.

Minister Michael Fallon Visits Polypipe


The Construction Products Association and Polypipe hosted a visit by the Rt Hon Michael Fallon MP, Minister of State for Business and Energy, to the plastic pipe systems manufacturer’s facilities in Kent where he saw first-hand an example of the innovative and sustainable product development undertaken within the construction products industry.

The visit included a tour of the Aylesford factory and the 14-acre site’s Centre of Excellence training facility. Polypipe CEO David Hall explained how the business’s technical support function combined with a £100 million investment in equipment across its nine manufacturing sites in recent years have been important factors in the company’s resilience and organic growth, leading to contracts for many of the UK’s most prestigious construction projects, including London 2012.

Dieffenbacher Received Orders From South African Timber Group PG Bison


The South African timber group PG Bison recently commissioned Dieffenbacher to supply a ClassiSizer at its new 380m³ per day continuous MDF press line in Johannesburg. The company ordered a ClassiSizer for resizing production waste into combustible fine dust for heating the thermal oil needed for their new MDF press line. Assembly is forecasted to begin in June 2013, well in time for the September 2013 commissioning of PG Bison’s new MDF line.

Forest Restoration Initiative Implementation Begins After A Year

 Almost one year ago, the Forest Service announced the contractor for the first stewardship contract awarded under the Four Forest Restoration Initiative (4FRI). The Forest Service anticipates that work issued under the Ranch Task Order will begin in early June.

This initial task order will provide treatment on approximately 1,000 acres on the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests near Show Low. The work consists of removal of trees over 1 inch in diameter and the residue (tops and limbs) in order to meet the desired conditions for the area.

UPM Tilhill Wins RoSPA Forestry Sector Again

 UPM Tilhill has had its approach to occupational safety and health recognised once again in an awards scheme run by the safety charity, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

The top award in the forestry sector of the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2013 was presented to UPM Tilhill Head of Safety UK Chris Pike during a ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel at the National Exhibition Centre.

Chris Pike said: “This is the third consecutive year we have won the forestry sector so I was especially proud to receive the winner’s silver salver on behalf of the company.
 
“I am delighted that the sustained effort the whole company has put into improving our safety performance over the past four years has been recognised again by RoSPA. The real reward has been achieving a 65 per cent reduction in the number of lost-time accidents.”

LP Also Granted ETA And CE Mark For LVL

 Louisiana-Pacific now also boasts the CE mark and the European Technical Approval (ETA) seal for the LSL products LSL Q-Lite, LSL-Q and LSL-G, which are all marketed under the Solid Start umbrella brand. LP had already been granted the CE mark and ETA seal for I-joists in March. LP aims to use the quality seals to push sales of various engineered wood products (EWP), including not only I-joists and LVL but also LSL (Laminated Strand Lumber), more strongly on European markets.

Wood-Based Panels Markets Slows Down In Turkey

 The Turkish markets for particleboard and MDF/HDF, which had shown a relatively stable trend in recent years in spite of the ongoing capacity enlargements, have increasingly started to slow down since the second half of 2012.

Supply has grown again sharply during the course of last year, due to the commissioning of several production lines in quick succession. At the same time, various foreign wood-based panels producers, especially from Spain, Italy and south-east Europe, have continued to step up their deliveries to Turkey. This coincided with a softening in demand for particleboard and MDF/HDF on the Turkish market.

Innovation Award 2013 Granted To Leuco At LIGNA

 The "LEUCO p-System Profile Cutter" ranked third at the LIGNA 2013 Innovation Symposium in the category "Mechanical Processing Innovations". LEUCO developed the cutter together with the saw mill specialist EWD (Esterer WD GmbH).

The "LEUCO p-System Profile Cutter" revolutionizes in saw mills the removal of the wood edge before cutting off the side boards. So far, this process was made by means of a combination of wood chip knives and saw blades and after 60,000 running meters the machine had to be stopped to change the tools.

Palis And Schattdecor Forms Partnership

 Palis (Padaluma Inkjet-Solutions GmbH), a digital-print specialist based in Markt Erlbach, and the decor paper printer Schattdecor of Thansau have formed an exclusive development partnership. 

The declared goal of the two companies for the next two years is to take a new type of high-performance single-pass digital printer with a 225 cm print width into operation, initially at Schattdecor exclusively. Printing from roll to roll at, the unit will have a working speed of 75 - 150 m/min and be capable of efficient and economic short run work. Printing is to be performed on decor base paper with pigments identical to those used in rotogravure printing.

Rougier Obtains The FSC Certification In Cameroon

 Rougier, major player in the business of certified African tropical timber , has obtained FSC (Forest Stewardship Council  ) certification for  three forest concessions located in the Mbang forest area in South East Cameroon and managed by the Rougier subsidiary SFID (Société Forestière et Industrielle de la Doumé).

During the past years, SFID has been strongly involved in forest certification and the FSC certification of responsible forest management [FSC - C014550 ] delivered by the Rain forest Alliance is a natural consequence of this commitment.

Bosch Rexroth Launches Heavy Duty Motor Range for the Forestry Industry

 A stronger shaft and bearings make the new radial piston motor MCR-W type from Bosch Rexroth ideal for the more demanding conditions including eucalyptus harvesting.

Rexroth MCR-W: 60 percent higher radial load capacity compared to standard radial piston motors. The Bosch Rexroth MCR range of radial piston motors has been specifically developed for a number of forestry vehicle applications including feed rollers, rotator heads, wheel and slew drives. Central to the range is the new MCR-W type designed for forestry harvester head feed roller applications.

Acimall Reports 2.7% Decrease Of Orders In 1Q

 The quarterly survey executed by Acimall’s Studies Office reveals a 2.7% decrease of orders compared to the January-March 2012 period, resulting from 2.8% decrease of foreign business and 2.4 shrinkage on the domestic market. The orders book spans two months approximately, with prices up by 0.4% since the beginning of the year. Slight reduction for turnover: minus 0.7 compared to the corresponding quarter in 2012, as Acimall said in a press release received by Lesprom Network.

EPF Reports A Fall In Wood-Based Panels Production

 European output of particleboard, MDF/HDF and OSB all declined last year. Preliminary figures released by the European Panels Federation (EPF), which include EPF member countries apart from Turkey and Russia, show that European particleboard production slipped another 5 % to 28.5m m³.

 “Europe's weak economic situation is eroding the future prospects of the Finnish forest industry. Finland should now focus on the rapid implementation of measures that ease the industry's cost burden,” says Timo Jaatinen, Director General of the Finnish Forest Industries Federation.

interzum 2013 Ends Successfully


On Thursday (16 May 2013) interzum came to an end with very good results. The world's leading trade fair for furniture production and interior finishing recorded a slight increase in visitor numbers compared to 2011 with around 53,000 visitors - including estimates from the last day of the trade fair - from 148 countries.

Burkle Falls Short Of Revenue Forecast

 The German machinery and plant manufacturer Robert Bürkle ended up missing its revenue forecast for 2012 by €2m. The forecast was issued in spring 2012 and confirmed in August. The group achieved turnover of €92m rather than its goal of €94m, a 4 % decrease compared with the previous year.

Award Ceremony For The "interzum Award: Intelligent Material & Design 2013"

On 12 May 2013, the proud prize winners were given their awards on the occasion of the start of the interzum cologne. 

Around 500 manufacturers, designers and marketing decision makers converged at the Koelnmesse site to celebrate the high point of this year's competition together at the interzum party. A total of 200 entries from 16 countries were submitted in 2013. From Materials and surfaces to Fittings, glass and lighting to Upholstery manufacture and bedding, there was great demand for innovative designs for the furniture industry and interior decorating. The jury, comprising five renowned design experts, gave awards to 51 of the entries.

Construction Activity Fell During First Quarter Of 2013


The latest Construction Trade Survey, shows that activity in the majority of the construction industry fell during the first quarter of 2013 with the impacts of falling demand exacerbated by the adverse impacts of poor weather. Looking forward, industry prospects remain downbeat with contractors, specialists and civil engineers all reporting declining orders for future work.
