Construction Products Association Reports No Growth In Economy


GDP figures, published by ONS, show that the UK economy grew by 0.3 per cent in the first quarter of 2013 compared to the previous quarter and was up by 0.6 per cent compared to the same quarter a year ago. Construction fared much worse, declining by 2.5 per cent quarter-on- quarter and 5.9 per cent year-on-year.

Potlatch reports 1Q net income of $15.5 million

 Potlatch Corporation reported financial results for the 1Q ended March 31, 2013. Total consolidated revenues for 1Q 2013 were $139.3 million, compared to $112.4 million in 1Q 2012 and $143.3 million in 4Q 2012, as the company said in a press release received by Lesprom Network.

Tembec To Sell Its NBSK Pulp Mill In Skookumchuck


Tembec Inc. announced that it has reached an agreement to sell its NBSK pulp mill and related assets and liabilities located in Skookumchuck, British Columbia to Paper Excellence Canada Holdings Corporation (“Paper Excellence”) for a purchase price of $89 million, which includes working capital. Lumber markets improved sharply in the US during 2012 and early 2013; production was up eight percent and prices have increased over 60 percent since late 2011, reports the Wood Resource Quarterly. The lumber market in the US really took off in late 2012 and early 2013.

A new programme with cross-Government support is aiming to make a lasting difference to the forests and woodlands of Britain.

Back in March 2011, Government invited an independent panel, chaired by the Bishop of Liverpool, to advise on the future direction of forestry and woodland policy in England. The panel reported back last July and called for England’s woods and forests to be re-valued for all the benefits they provide.
