India Demonstrates Increased Demand And Growing Preference For American Hardwoods

India continues its imports of hardwood lumber and veneer worth over USD 1.88 million during the first half of 2012, according to a statement issued by the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC). Of this total, exports of American hardwood lumber to India reached a value of USD 908,000 and a volume of 1,455 cubic metres, marking an increase of 57 percent and 60 percent respectively over the January to June period of 2011. In addition, direct shipments of US hardwood veneers to India during the period reached a total value of USD 976,000, falling by 5 percent in comparison to the same period last year.
